We Are Sports Fans Now

We had a fantastic time last night watching the Women's Final, even if we couldn't go out! I would've loved to be in an American bar for those beautiful first sixteen minutes, but we had plenty of fun watching it on our own (I hope our neighbors don't hate us now--we got a little loud, and the game started at midnight).

We spent most of today queueing at Wimbledon. We were a bit worried we wouldn't get in, but after a three hour wait, we were able to enjoy the last ninety minutes of the day. By the time we got in, tickets were only 5 pounds (down from 18), so that was pretty cool. Pictures below!

Wimbledon is all about tons of queueing!

Further in the queue--we became friendly with the folks in front of us and they offered to take our picture.

This was a Boys' Match--an adorable American vs. a really intense Uzbekistani. The American won!
A mixed doubles match; we only saw the tail end of the match. The English team did not win.

Watching the Centre Court match from The Hill. It was technically closed when we got there, but we found a way in that wasn't very heavily guarded.

The final match on the Centre Court was Novak Djokovic vs. Kevin Anderson. We caught the end of the second set on the hill, but by then it was 9:00 and so they suspended the final set for the next day. We didn't make it to pub trivia tonight--maybe next week!

Tomorrow Jon is going to go into work, so I will go to the Fashion and Textile Museum, which he has no interest in, and possibly do some shopping. We're planning on seeing a show that night.

Some additional notes about London:
-It's not as easy to find good beer. The grocery stores really only have cheap lager (although you can also buy wine and liquor there), whereas in NYC any grocery store or bodega will multiple craft beer selections.
-People smoke a lot here! Since our flat isn't air conditioned we often just leave our window and patio door open, but then the folks below us go outside to smoke and stink up our room. We finally broke down and bought a fan today; now we can keep out the smoke and the flies!
-The Tube is wonderfully reliable. All of the stations have displays that tell you when the next train is coming, and we've rarely had to wait more than two or three minutes for a train, even in the middle of the day.
