London Eye

Today we visited the London Eye. It was a beautiful, clear evening, and we got some spectacular views of the city!

Buildings are a lot shorter here.

After we rode the Eye, Jon requested that we go to the London Eye "4D Experience." It was included in the price of our ticket, so why not. Basically, you watch a 3D video (most of which has something to do with riding the London Eye, but some of which is entirely irrelevant, such as costumed children harassing you or traditional Indian dance numbers) while you are also sprayed with water and confetti. Kind of fun, but a lot of the video featured this really aggressive bird that constantly squawked at you and flew towards your face--literally my worst nightmare. THANKS JON!

We had our first fish 'n chips dinner tonight. The fish part wasn't super flavorful--it mostly tasted like fried. Not that I'm complaining. I've also found that fries here (chips) tend to be large and mushy, but my American palate prefers them thin and crispy. The ketchup is way better here though--not so sweet. Also the place we ate at was called "Fishcotheque," which tickled me.

During the day today, Jon went into work and I explored a local craft beer store. Most of their inventory was American beer--Sierra Nevada, Stone, Brooklyn Brewery, and other things that are pretty ubiquitous in the US. I picked out a Scotch ale from New Zealand, a lager from Scotland, and a Wildbier (whatever that is) from Denver. A man with a black eye and an almost unintelligible accent rung me up, and he praised my choice of the American beer. So in case you had any doubts, the US is indeed the world champion of the craft beer movement.

The Tube strike ends tomorrow morning! Jon had to walk from work to the London Eye because the buses were so crowded and the taxi line was not moving even a little. We're glad things will be back up and running for the weekend!
