London Adventures Part 2: Electric Boogaloo

And we're back! Two vacationless years later, Jon and I decided to return to the city we enjoyed so much for another two weeks. Since the first installment of our London blog had such an avid fanbase (aka my grandmother--Hello Grandma-ma! 😃), we also decided to continue blogging our time here.

Jon is currently at the EE store (British cell phone provider) trying to exchange a SIM card that we bought about twenty minutes ago (I said we didn't need that much data. Jon disagreed. Then we got home and Jon changed his mind. Probably they are not going to refund us anything, but he is determined to try), so I thought I'd get the first post rolling.

After an uneventful flight (I re-watched There's Something About Mary, which is a classic, and Four Weddings and  Funeral, which is kind of boring and dumb), we landed in London yesterday at 7:00p and arrived at our flat three hours later. The flat we're staying in this time around is much bigger and more centrally located than 2015's flat; we're very close to Leicester Square, the National Gallery, tons of restaurants, and most of the theaters. It's definitely an older building, but it's perfect for our vacation needs.

Jon returns! They didn't give us the refund.
We had decided while on line at passport control to get dinner at Dishoom, which is an Indian restaurant we really enjoyed during our last trip. By the time we got there, we were absolutely starving--and were told the wait was 40 minutes. However, we had our hearts set on this meal, and what's another 40 minutes of waiting when you've just stood on line at Heathrow for two hours?

Luckily the wait ended up being closer to 20 minutes, and we had some delicious lamb samosas, lamb chops, chicken biryani, paneer rolls, and a superb dessert called "Memsahib's Mess," made of fresh cream, crushed meringue, strawberries with rose syrup, and gulkand (what is gulkand, you ask? The answer is, delicious. But also it's a sweet preserve of rose petals). The dessert was so tasty we almost ordered seconds, but it was getting to be closing time and we didn't want to be those guys.

I had a Bombay Pimm's, which was delicious but contained way too many solids.
There was quite a bit of excavation before I could get to the actual beverage.
Today we got brunch at an okay place called Bill's. This afternoon we're going to see a matinee of Comedy About a Bank Robbery, by the same creators of the hysterical The Play that Goes Wrong. Tonight we have reservations at Hawksmoor, a popular steakhouse (I am DETERMINED to have excellent steak this time around!)

We are super excited to discover new London things and return to past favorites!
